Welcome to Event Horizon Farm in beautiful Georgia, home of some of the most beautiful labradors you will meet!
My obsession with labradors first started when my father decided he needed a yellow labrador. While working to earn the money for a quality pup, I studied the breed, saving my pennies until I earned enough to surprise him with Ginger for his anniversary. Ginger became an intrigal part of our family, eventually earning the affectionate nickname "dad's second wife". That was almost 20 years ago, and sadly, we recently sent Ginger off over the Rainbow Bridge to wait for us.
I learned a lot about labs from that precious dog. Ginger taught me
During the course of the last fifteen years, I have witnessed the birth of each of the litters from my dogs. Because of this intimate relationship with my breeding stock and my constant education about the breed itself, I found that my philosophy has always been in line with the labrador community opinion that no kennel should be using their dogs solely as a form of income (and in my other [income-earning] life, I'm a science teacher for sixth graders). If you are considering purchasing a puppy from someone that uses their dogs for their primary income, walk away. Unless this is a breeder that you have personally investigated and trust, you are almost always supporting an individual (or group) that does not put the labrador breed first .
My dogs are part of my family and when I feel I have breeding characteristics that will improve the labrador breed as a whole, I will plan a litter. My girls do not enter the breeding program until they are a minimum of two years old and have passed all appropriate health screenings.
When I say that my dogs are part of my family, I mean it. They live in the house, I play with them and they sleep with me. I have always felt strongly that dogs should never be owned just to be thrown out in the back of the house and only get human interaction once a day when someone comes out to feed them. I do not want my puppies to suffer a fate like that, and because of my obsession with my dogs, I screen potential homes quite thoroughly (some say too thoroughly!).
If you decide that you want to become a part of the Event Horizon Farm family, please remember our guarantee/plea:
We will take back any of our dogs at any point in their lifetime for any reason, no matter what age, with no questions asked.
We once had to rescue one of our dogs from our local pound before as a result of a divorce that turned ugly, and it is heartbreaking. Please, if your dog is not working out, please let us know and will take the dog back with no questions asked and no guilt whatsoever. We want what is best for your dog.
Our puppies have been purchased to be pets, to go hunting, to work with the police and to just be couch potatoes. They have the temperament for work, play or to be the best weekend warrior in your house. Whatever type of family you have, Event Horizon Farm has a puppy for you.
